One of Tennessee’s oldest towns with many buildings predating the Civil War, Jonesborough has a very interesting history. It was once listed on the Travel Channel as one of the Top Ten Most Haunted Towns in America. Could it be true? Who are the ghosts who haunt this town?

One of our earlier presidents, Andrew Jackson served as a no-nonsense judge in Jonesborough. Does his spirit still preside over his former jurisdiction? Many people would think so, as his apparition has been witnessed walking down Main St. or around the site of an old house known as “Old Hickory”. You can also find Jackson’s ghostly form haunting “The Hermitage,” his home near Nashville, as well as the White House in Washington, D.C 

Other ghosts are said to roam Jonesborough, and inhabit many of the houses there. Fortunate are those who have witnessed the spirit of John Sevier, Governor of the State of Franklin and Tennessee’s first Governor. Those are but a couple of more famous spirits said to roam the streets in this quaint town.

Lesser know but just as ghostly is the spirit of a groom, killed by a train on the railroad tracks near the old courthouse. I don’t want to ruin your surprise in case you ever take one of the lantern ghost tours but that “ghost story” has a sad surprise specter, who else roams the rail road tracks besides the groom?  The Old Cat House isn’t empty of ghostly residents either, and many still smell the strong scent of cat urine even from outside the old home.  

And of course we had an experience at The Old Tannery, where many spirits visit and seem to want to communicate with the visitors even now. We captured many EVP’s at this location, along with interesting photographs at the locations mentioned above.
